What should i bring?
Most routes will only require you to bring a good pair of walking shoes (like running shoes, Tevas, or Chacos, you don't have to wear boots) and a bottle of water (1 liter) and any important personal things you might need, e.g., inhaler, epi-pen...
Everything else (all gear, snacks, and food) will be provided by us.
DO I NEED TO HAVE HIKING EXPERIENCE?
Not necessarily. The Appalachian Mountains is the greatest hiking destination in the east and it's also one of the most adaptable. This is the value of having a Tour Guide with you. They will adapt on the spot as needed. As long as you’re in fairly good shape, and enjoy experiencing beautiful mountain scenery at a walking pace, you will enjoy Asheville Adventures.
can i bring my pet?
Dogs, cats, iguanas... and all other normal pets are wonderful and great friends, but they are unfortunately not allowed to join us on the trail.
WHAT DO I WEAR?
Great question! For our day hikes we suggest wearing comfortable pants, or shorts, that are easy to hike in and a comfortable top. Just remember if it is hot out you might be sweating, and if it is cold out you will want a jacket. If you book an overnight hike, we will plan specifically with you about what to wear.
WHAT ABOUT FOOD? WHAT IF I HAVE SPECIFIC DIETARY NEEDS?
OUR MEALS ARE NOT STANDARDIZED. We are hear to give YOU the best experience, so talk with us, are you gluten free? Lactose intolerant? Vegan? Vegetarian? We will make fresh and delicious meals that are best for YOU.
are the waterfalls dangerous?
Waterfalls are a beautiful but powerful force of nature. They can be very dangerous, but only if they are enjoyed the wrong way. We will ensure that you view the waterfall from a safe location and avoid any dangerous situations.
What if I get hurt on the trail?
We are VERY serious about safety on our tours. Each of our guides are trained and prepared for injuries and accidents, because they are a real possibility. However, we will do our very best to avoid any injury or issue that could arise.
WHAT ABOUT THE BEARS?
Trust us, bears are friends not enemies. In these mountains we only have black bears and they are very scared of humans. In fact, there has never been an unprovoked bear attack in the history of North Carolina. If you were to encounter one on your tour (that would be amazing) your guide is trained and knows exactly what to do to make sure everybody, including the bear, is safe.
WEATHER & CANCELATION :
WHAT IF IT RAINS?
We hike in all kinds of weather, be it rain or even snow. In the event that the trip becomes unsafe because of the weather, then we will cancel the trip and provide a full refund.
WHAT IF I HAVE TO CANCEL MY TOUR?
Can't make it? No problem, just please let us know at least one week prior to your trip to get a full refund.
DO I NEED WARM CLOTHES?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. For our adventures it is best to dress in layers (t- shirt, sweater, hoodie, jacket...) which will allow you to add or take away layers based on the temperature. For winter months or odd weather situations, your guide will give you specific instructions.
